War between the USA and the Islamic Republic

Daryoush Homayoun

A relatively unimportant descent by the Lebanese Hezbollah on Israeli border posts opened a big sore like a stab. A crisis came into the picture that was looming in a small part of small Lebanon for more than two decades. A dangerous and sanguinary game has started in which we Iranians will profit as well as we will have to bear the negative consequences.

The human tragedy in this war is enormous and can overshadow the whole war since civilians are always the victims of a war although it takes place between military forces.

However, the fears, as “Lebanon will be eliminated” and other worries lose their significance for no problem can be solved by the humanitarian feelings of those who merely show their indignation but no way out of the crisis. Apart from that, those people in Damascus, Teheran and Bint Dshebeil (headquarters of the Hezbollah), who have caused this well calculated war, are those who hold these humanitarian feelings cheap. Besides, the fate of the Lebanese people is the last thing they would think of. When a human being derives his right of (mal) practise from Allah he gives himself the right to anything.

And here are a few parts of a complicated puzzle:
1. The entire Hezbollah is a product of the Islamic Republic. The Hezbollah is a group that has been planted by the Iranian ambassador then in office with plenty of time, money, and help of hundreds of Iranian military and security forces in order to establish a second Islamic Republic in Lebanon after the PLO had been chased away by the Israeli army. In the last 24 years Iran has transferred billions of Dollars to Syria as the guardian of the Hezbollah and to the Hezbollah itself until this group became a State in the State that controls 25 percent of the Lebanese terrorism and 10 percent of the whole population. It became a local and autonomous government in the service of the Islamic Republic and Syria which does not care about Lebanon as a State at all.

2. The Islamic Terrorism is an ideology, a weapon, policy and propaganda mechanism for the Hezbollah that has started its work with hostage-taking and hijacking and has brought suicide bombers into the Islamic world. In Hezbollah-controlled areas little children are indoctrinated at school with this Islamic ideology and the leader of the Hezbollah-State proclaims publicly the dream of the leadership of the whole Middle East. The Islamic Republic of Iran, united with the Hezbollah in a supranational structure of Shiites, pushes ahead its policy with the aid of the Hezbollah by hook or by crook.

3. The Islamic Republic as well as the Hezbollah know about the little influence of their Shiite messages among the Sunnite majority of the Arabs. For this reason they see the solution to takeover the leadership in a radical anti-Israeli attitude and in a war against Israel. By attacking an Israeli border post with the aid of the Hamas that has been under Israeli fire because of similar reasons, the Hezbollah has created a second front. Besides, the Islamic Republic fondly hoped that with a new trouble spot the pressure on it because of its controversial nuclear program would cease. But neither the Hamas nor the Hezbollah nor the Islamic Republic have envisaged such a harsh reaction by Israel. They regarded Israel in the absence of Sharon but with Mofas as Prime Minister and minister of defence amongst the current civil ministers as too weak and too undecided.

4. The attacks on Israeli border posts by the Hamas and the Hezbollah gave Israel and the USA the best opportunity to solve their problem in Lebanon that has plagued them for over 20 years. In the Gaza strip the Israelis could easily bring the Hamas back down to earth from their unachievable horizon of expectations. Until now (end of July), Israel, by its heavy attacks, has on the one hand contributed to the reconciliation of seven Palestinian armed groups like the Hamas. On the other hand they lead to the cooperation between the Prime Minister (Hanijeh), the President (Abbas) and the eight different independent paramilitary organisations and the security organs. This new situation has to be acclaimed. The first result of this cooperation was the agreement of these groups to stop the missile attacks on Israel. Perhaps the Palestinians finally understand the senselessness of their military plans.

5. The Hezbollah is stronger than the Hamas and the Israelis cannot achieve everything (elimination of the Hezbollah) they aim to through their attacks. It seems as if Israel has reduced its military targets after two weeks of intense missile attacks and air raids. After the rapid destruction of the military and economic infrastructure of the Hezbollah the preconditions for a diplomatic solution and the delegation of international troops are set. The most important western governments even grant Israel in this direction a free hand for a certain period of time. In the immoral world of international politics the chances of success of diplomacy unfortunately rise with the number of civil victims.

6. An unexpected result of this war in Lebanon is the awakening of the powers that be in the Arabian countries so that they see themselves as indirect targets of the pincer movement against Israel. The problem is not the rise of a “Shiite crescent” from Iran and Iraq over south Saudi Arabia to Lebanon and Syria, but the rise of Iran to a regional super power. Arabian governments have seen the distinctive indication of future processes in the order from Teheran that instructed the Hezbollah to start the war in Lebanon. From this point onwards it will be Iranians who decide over the affairs of Arabians. They will become the heroes of the Arabian bulks. Die Arabian governments can easily read this scenario from every wall.

7. The human tragedy of this war (hundreds of dead civilians, half a million refugees, and destruction of the infrastructure of the country that Lebanese people have build up in the last ten years, etc.) has been exceeded long ago. The Israeli air force does not make any differences between military and civil targets and even destroys housing areas. Even f the Israelis hold the Hezbollah responsible for the war, it is Israel who bears the responsibility for the reckless descents upon cities.

However, two facts should not be ignored:
● The most responsible for everything that has occurred are the Islamic Republic, that has ice-coldly instigated a war in another country, and the Hezbollah that endanger the security of 4 Million Lebanese without any responsibility.
● The fate of Lebanon stays the same as in the past 30 years – civil war, occupation and foreign intervention – as long as the Lebanese population regards itself as Shiites, Sunnites and Maronites instead of Lebanese and as long as the fate of Lebanon is being decided in Syria and Iran which is provoked steadily by the Israeli military threat. 30 years ago it was the Palestinians who have turned Lebanon into a war zone between Israel and Palestine; today the Hezbollah plays the same role. The war at that time lead to the occupation of Lebanon by the Syrian army that can be seen as one of the worst catastrophes that can happen to a country. This time, however, there is hope that the United Nations – actually the European countries – will go to the rescue of Lebanon by bringing a buffer zone in the south of Lebanon under their control. Lebanon’s fate seems to be dependent on at least some form of occupation.

8. The war in Lebanon is actually a war between the Islamic republic and the USA, und up until now the Mullahs are on the losing side. Hundreds of millions of dollars invested in the territories controlled by Hisbollah are being destroyed by Israeli bombs. Hisbollah will no longer enjoy complete freedom in Lebanon. The permanent threat to Israel through missiles from south Lebanon proved to be of no great consequence. More than 2000 missiles launched during the first ten days have not led to great losses on the Israeli side. The gap between Shiites and Sunnites is widening. In Lebanon, the will to rid Lebanese politics from Iranian and Syrian influence has become stronger. And despite all cries from advanced circles in the West and street protests in the Arabic world, the real world conflict between Arabic terror on the one side and the forces of liberal democracy on the other is becoming more and more (sometimes violently) visible. On the one side, not everything is humanistic and liberalistic, but on the other side, everything there is barbaric, violent and backward-thinking.

9. However, now the real question arises: following the defeat of the attacks from south Lebanon and Gaza and the ineffectiveness of the missile launches, in how far will the temptation of an attack against Iran become stronger?
